Two species of Ash-leaf Aphis

are

Prociphilus bumeliae & Prociphilus fraxini

and they are identical at this stage.

Both of these species are host alternate. - From Ash (Fraxinus) to Fir (Abies)

Apparently the wax protects the aphids from the effects of their own honeydew. Also it is thought they tend to stop producing honeydew when , as in this case, they are attended by ants.

JE a took a sample and determined these were

Only the winged individuals (alates) are capable of being determine but still tricky if not impossible from photographs.

You need to be able to determine the relative lengths of the third antennal segment as compared to the second.

Curry Plant (Helichrysum italicum) Aphid

Masked Curry Plant Aphid (Macrosiphonella helichrysi)

First recorded in the UK in 2022 down in Cornwall by Dr Sally Luker but there have been no records since until JE found them In Waterloo Park in Norwich.
